Local High School Students Earn First Professional Certifications
The Charleston Campus’ dual-enrollment program with Dorchester School District 2 is still in its infancy, but is already producing impressive results. The agreement between ECPI University and the school district allows high school students to take accredited college-level courses in Computer and Information Science and earn professional certifications.
Some of those students recently took the Microsoft Networking Fundamentals Certification exam with 39 of them passing on their first attempt. They are now preparing to take the Security Fundamentals certification in just a few months. ECPI University donates a large portion of the course costs, with the school district covering direct costs.
“We are really proud of these talented young people,” says ECPI University Charleston Campus President James Weaver. “These students will be more prepared for the academic rigor of college and workforce ready with prerequisite knowledge that many in their age group most likely do not yet possess.”
“This program has also helped students further their resolve to learn more about STEM careers and it has strengthened our ties with the community to let them know that ECPI University Charleston is a resource for students to learn.”
