Daniel Holcomb’s path to a college degree has required a great deal of perseverance. Years ago, he tried community college, attempting to fit in classes while working and caring for a medically- dependent child. In addition to scheduling challenges, he was laid off during the height of the recession.
Eventually, Daniel decided to stay home to care for his son. “It was then that I found that I had plenty of time to think and feel some remorse for not getting my college degree,” he says. “I really wanted to go back to school but I just could not figure out a schedule that allowed me to attend class and still take my son to his many doctor appointments. I admitted defeat. I realized that a traditional college simply would not work for me.[Tweet “”I had plenty of time to think and feel some remorse for not getting my college degree.””]
“During my time in the Marine Corps, I learned many important things in order to deal with life. The greatest was the ability to learn how to adapt and overcome. I wanted to pursue my passion for electronics, so I started my search for a college that offered classes that worked around my schedule.”
Last year, Daniel contacted ECPI University. While he has always preferred a traditional learning environment, he was pleasantly surprised by how easily he was able to make the transition to online learning. “The staff at ECPI University helped me every step of the way, not only with enrolling but also by offering plenty of guidance during my classes and solutions when I faced different challenges.”
Daniel recently completed his studies and has earned his Associate of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology. “I’m ready to get back into the workforce and thanks to the Career Services Department at ECPI University, I have a job waiting for me,” he says. “My career services advisor, Rae Sewell, put in me contact with Goodman Communications and I was immediately given an interview. I am happy to say that I was offered the job and I begin work this month!
“I will be working as an Installation Tech III in the Minneapolis, Minnesota branch office. With all of the twists and turns in my life, I couldn’t be happier with my choice in selecting ECPI University. As a matter of fact, I am so happy that I have decided to stay with ECPI University and begin working on my bachelor’s degree.”
