Nearly 20 students from North Carolina’s Edenton-Chowan Health Sciences Career Accelerator Day Camp visited theVirginia Beach Medical Careers campus in late July to learn more about career opportunities within the health sciences field.
Led by Simulation Lab Coordinator Terri Axelrod, EJD, and aided by key members of the health sciences program, the students not only had a great time, they gained valuable exposure to the medical field. The teens got to practice on the Anatomage table, learn about medical assisting, watch how to take a dental x-ray, visit with active nursing classes to ask questions, and practice their CPR skills in high fidelity lab simulations.
The students came away with a new understanding of programs available to them – exactly what their teachers were hoping for. It’s never too early to expose youth to college and career!
