Students and Faculty at ECPI University Reaching Out

Virginia Beach Campus – More than 20 Portsmouth Public School students are participating in the campus’ summer manufacturing academy. Upon completion, they are eligible to take a certification test to earn an entry-level industry credential.

Virginia Beach Campus – ECPI University served as Platinum Sponsor for the 2016 STEM Trifecta. Hosted at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, hundreds of Virginia Beach elementary, middle, and high school students competed in unique, hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math activities. The annual event features three competitions involving robots, 3D printing, and cybersecurity.

Newport News Campus – Campus President Dr. John Olson presented free iPads to a group of Virginia Peninsula high school students who took part in the recent Youth Career Expo, sponsored by the Peninsula Council for Workforce Development, Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, and six Greater Peninsula school divisions. The goal of the annual Expo is to educate students about career opportunities in the region and the skills required for a variety of jobs.

Raleigh Campus – Faculty, staff, and students donated 25 pints of blood at the campus’ most recent blood drive for REX UNC Health Care.

Charleston Campus – A group of students and faculty served as judges at the Lowcountry Regional Science and Engineering Fair which attracted students in grades 5-12 from Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, and Georgetown counties in South Carolina.

Richmond/Moorefield CampusNetwork security student Johnny Brunow and Mechatronics student Stephen Fawcett are serving as volunteers at the Chesterfield County Public Library’s Midlothian Branch, helping people operate the county’s new 3D printer, available to all library patrons.

Roanoke Campus – John Guise, Mike Donodeo, A.J. Labinski, Josh Lucas, Scott Mangieri, Larissa Sellers, and Ben Sperlazza participated in this year’s Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraiser at the Red Sox Field in Salem. Together, they raised $2,425.00 – $1,000.00 more than last year – making them the top fundraiser for that day.

Roanoke Campus – Twenty-two pints of blood were donated at Virginia Blood Services’ most recent drive on campus.

Richmond/Moorefield Campus – Students sponsored a book drive to collect donations for Crestwood Elementary School’s summer reading program.

Greensboro Campus – After hearing a call out from radio station 93.1 The Wolf, Director of Nursing Thom Hodges and Director of Clinical Development Dianna Michael led a one-day donation drive to help flood victims in West Virginia. With the help of generous students, faculty, and staff, they collected 24 bottles of Clorox and $280.

Virginia Beach and Newport New Campuses – Twenty-four Dental Assistant students and staff members volunteered at the Virginia Dental Association’s Mission of Mercy project at Green Run High School in Virginia Beach. In total, 526 patients were provided a range of services, including dental fillings, extractions, crowns, cleanings, root canals, and dentures.

Newport New Campus – Members of the career services team volunteered at the Youth Career Expo in Hampton, Virginia, providing mock interviews to over 1000 high school students from across the region.

Greenville Campus – Hosted an IT Showcase for more than 80 Greenville County High School students who experienced technology in new ways and explored an array of career paths.

Charleston Campus – Practical nursing student Brandy Cummings was one of 23 students, faculty, staff who donated at the campus’ most recent blood drive.

Richmond/Emerywood Campus – Led by Simulation Lab Coordinator Christina Gleason, the campus raised more than $300 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a project to fund pediatric cancer research.

Virginia Beach Campus – Members of the campus’ criminal justice association, Lambda Alpha Sigma Lambda, collected more than 200 articles of clothing, as well as hygiene products for the homeless at the Union Mission.
