Richmond/Moorefield Campus – Engineering Technology faculty member Dr. Paul Nussbaum and Business Program Director Chris Ayers partnered on an interdisciplinary project to build awareness and interest in 3D printing. Student teams were challenged to come up with marketable products which included a “Tastes of Williamsburg” craft beer bottle opener and “Book Latch” picture book holder for preschool teachers.
Virginia Beach, VA – Raleigh Campus Criminal Justice Program Director Barb Yaeger coordinated a multi-campus emergency simulation exercise at the Virginia Beach Community Emergency Response Team’s (CERT) training facility. Students from Raleigh, Newport News, and Virginia Beach engaged in search and rescue within the training center, clearing rubble, locating and triaging victims, and suppressing fires.
Greensboro Campus – Electronics Engineering Technology students visited Volvo North American Truck headquarters to see firsthand how automated systems and robotics are used to increase productivity and profit.
Charlotte Campus – During the “Week of Arduino,” CIS and EET students develop real-world applications of Logic and Design. Angie Crandall and Renee Rossignol assembled a robotic arm while other students worked on the Arduino IDE. James Bennett modified the serial interface for the Arduino. Then, he created a binary-to-decimal conversion and displayed it to the class. Walter Doyle then used the Arduino interface to send positioning commands to the Robotic arm.
