“May God bless everyone here tonight. I would like to thank everyone for joining us tonight for this historical moment.
Tonight, marks the beginning of a new journey. Undoubtedly, the road to success has been full of obstacles and barriers, however through persistence and determination everything is possible, even the American dream.
Regardless of how difficult something is, it is always important to never give up, never lose faith, and most importantly never stop believing in yourself. Hopefully, by the end of the night I can encourage everyone here tonight to never give up on your dreams and pursue them with all your heart by sharing my own personal story with you tonight.
My name is Jorge Escobar Ramirez and I’m currently 31 years old. I was born in Cuernavaca, Morelos, a small village in Mexico. Both my parents and I migrated to the United States when I was two years old. As time went on, my parents would eventually enroll me in elementary school, middle school, and high school.
Soon after graduating from high school with a diploma, I had planned to enroll in college to pursue a career in technology, however, due to my financial status I was unable to enroll, since the expense would be out of range. After repeated conversations with my parents, it was suggested that a better route would be to find employment and move on from there.
As time went on, I had many jobs, some of which include dishwashing, agriculture, manufacturing, and order selecting. Tonight, I stand before you as living proof that through hard work, perseverance, and determination anything is possible.
Currently, I am employed at Blue Ridge Fiberboard, working as an IT Support Specialist. Without a doubt, the journey has been hard, however I would like to encourage everyone here tonight to follow your heart, and fulfill your American dream, as I did.”
