FIRST Tech Topics Include Electronics, CAD, Materials Science, and Mechanical Engineering
ECPI University hosted hundreds of high school students in September for a preparatory workshop in advance of next year’s FIRST Tech Challenge. As lead title sponsor of the Virginia Championship, ECPI University enthusiastically supports FIRST Tech’s mission of inspiring young people to become science and technology leaders and innovators.
The organization behind this annual competition was created to engage students in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills. The goal is to encourage innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities, including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

FIRST Tech Challenge teams are required to design, build, program, and operate robots to play a floor game in an alliance format. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas.
To help Richmond, Northern Virginia, and Central Virginia students get ready for this year’s competition, ECPI University’s Richmond/Innsbrook and Northern Virginia campuses hosted a series of workshops focused on basic principles of engineering, including Electronics, CAD, Materials Science, and Mechanical Engineering.
