Made their Mark: ECPI University Students, Faculty, and Staff

Hallie Oxley, a Cyber and Network Security student at the Richmond/Moorefield campus, has graduated from the Chesterfield Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. CERT educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact the area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Harrison Phillips, a graduate of the Virginia Beach campus, has announced that he is seeking re-election as District 5 Supervisor for the Accomack County, Virginia Board of Supervisors.

Ishor Richardson, a practical nursing student at the Charleston campus and professional cornhole player, placed second in this year’s Charleston American Cornhole League.

Daniel Miller and Zachary Lazarus, graduates of the Paramedic (EMT) program at the Newport News campus, have completed their perception program for Advanced Life Support (ALS) Providers.

Pamela Weinbender, a graduate of ECPI University’s College of Culinary Arts, Culinary Institute of Virginia, has opened Weinegar’s Sweets & Treats Bakery & Tea room in Manassas, Virginia.

Patrick Craven, director of the Center for Cyber Safety and Education, formerly the (ISC)² Foundation, has joined the Cyber and Network Security Program Advisory Council at the Orlando campus. The Center for Cyber Safety and Education is a global non-profit charity formed in 2011 as a conduit to reach society and empower students, teachers, parents, and the general public to secure their online life with cybersecurity education and awareness programs in the community.

Dr. Paul Nussbaum, a member of the Electronics Engineering Technology faculty at the Richmond/Moorefield campus, has received the designation of Kernel Expert from Kaggle. He is currently ranked 271 out of nearly 90,000 people given such a ranking (top 1%), out of more than 1,000,000 Kaggle participants.
Kaggle is an online community of data scientists and machine learners. Owned by Google, it allows users to find and publish data sets, explore and build models in a web-based data-science environment, work with other data scientists and machine learning engineers, and enter competitions to solve data science challenges.

The Phi Beta Lambda Chapter at the Charleston campus performed exceptionally at this year’s PBL State Competition, with Javon Talley placing first in Client Services and being awarded a Future Business Executive Certificate.

Terrence Warren, a graduate of the Columbia campus, has published his latest book, Routing and Switching Labs – Beginner to Intermediate.

Vicki Brett CDA, RDH, BSDH, Dental Assisting Program Director at the Newport News campus, has been elected to the DALE Foundation Board of Trustees. The DALE Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that provides continuing education and conducts sound research to promote oral health. It is the official affiliate of the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. (DANB), the national certification board for dental assistants.
